Obstetrics is the medical specialty dealing with the care of all women's reproductive tracts and their children during pregnancy (prenatal period), childbirth and the postnatal period. Many obstetricians are also gynecologists, meaning they perform in both specialties. In the United States, these physicians are commonly referred to as OB/GYNs.
We participate in all facets of obstetrics, sometimes in conjunction with Maternal-Fetal Medicine experts. We take care of many high risk obstetric patients such as patients with multiple gestations, diabetes, recurrent miscarriage, preterm labor, previous C section, hypertensive disorders, and fetal growth restriction.
Our job as obstetricians is to stay abreast of the latest medical information, testing, and technologies for safely and comfortably leading our patients through the many changes and stages they are to experience.
We have a state-of-the art 3-D ultrasound machine, with a sonographer in our office, we are able to perform most the technical aspects of ultrasound studies, which are then, in most cases, interpreted by a Maternal-Fetal Medicine physician.
